All proceeds from the sale of prints, Tshirts and Totes will fund Bat House materials. The project will be fully funded at $1000.
About the Bat House
Our Bat House was designed by architect and designer An “Sledge” Liu, whose work, including similar bat houses can be seen here. Constructed from Western Red Cedar, galvanized steel and recycled concrete, this durable bat house will provide shelter for up to 200 native bats, supporting natural pest control and pollination in the surrounding environment. The bat guano collected beneath the structure will also serve as a nutrient-rich fertilizer for the community garden, creating a small, sustainable ecological loop.
About Maymont Community Garden
Maymont Community Garden is a 501c3 community garden in a USDA-designated low-income food desert in Richmond, VA, between the James River Park and Texas Beach DIY skatepark. Our mission is to build a greenspace that supports skaters, children, and the ecology and biodiversity of the site. Our all-volunteer team provides free raised beds, seeds and plants to 26 local gardeners. We’ve planted 30+ native trees and shrubs, maintain wild grape vines, a 300 square foot native pollinator garden, productive beehives, a free Little Seed Library, neighborhood composting and more!
