Plate Lithography
Saturday 9/20 and Sunday 9/21, 10AM-2PM
Instructor: Claire Szeptycki
An affordable take on the classic Stone Lithography, aluminum plate lithography can create the same tonal range that Lithography is famous for with far fewer materials. By marking the plate using greasy materials such as crayons, tusche washes, sharpies, photographic transfers, and more, an aluminium plate lithographer has almost endless possibilities for image making! In this 2-day workshop students will learn how to prepare their plate, create a drawing using lithographic crayons, etch their plate using gum arabic and tannic acid, and print.
Claire Szeptycki is an artist working in Richmond, Virginia. Her practice centers drawing, monotype, and lithography techniques, which she uses to create transparent and colorful layered works. The continuous layering of unrelated imagery in one print serves as a method of personal storytelling.
