Making Ink from Guns
Sat. 11/1 and Sun 11/2, 10AM-2PM
Instructor: Thomas Little
Join Thomas Little, proprietor of A Rural Pen Inkworks for Making Ink From Guns. Using simple chemistry, Thomas will explain the methods of making colors from weapon derived iron. This class will explore the qualities of these pigments that extend beyond the artist's palette and hopefully leave those attending with an appreciation of the power of materially informed pigment.
Thomas Little is an ink and pigment maker living in North Carolina, USA. Central to his practice is the dissolution of firearms to create iron based pigments. He operates A Rural Pen Inkworks as his business and as a platform to experiment with elements of the traditional medicine show/street hawker/human billboard, incorporating the performative into the process of transmuting materials of war into materials of wonder.
