The hosts of the hit podcast and the co-authors of the bestselling book, Life After Cars: Freeing Ourselves from the Tyranny of the Automobile, are coming to Richmond, Virginia.

This event will bring together local bike, pedestrian and transit advocates, for a mini block party in front of the studio, an in person book talk and discussion with podcast hosts Doug Gordon and Sarah Goodyear, followed by an all-ages benefit show organized by Rag and Bones Bike Coop.

BIKE BLOCK PARTY 5-6PM

We’re opening the street in front of Studio Two Three to food trucks, live printing (free!), and lots of bike, pedestrian and transit organizations! Food and many orgs will stay on site through the end of the night, but the action begins before the talk. Several independently organized bike rides will be descending on 15th Street from around the city. We’ll post more details on how to join a ride as the event approaches. Free and open to all.

BOOK TALK 6-8PM (Register Here!)

Doug and Sarah have been touring the country with their book Life After Cars: Freeing Ourselves from the Tyranny of the Automobile. This book draws on research by historian (and UVA prof.) Peter Norton into how our streets violently and rapidly transitioned into to car-dominated spaces in the early 20th century. Doug and Sarah have never met Peter in person, so this promises to be a really rich and interesting discussion, in a city where streets are on the cusp, perhaps, of another revolutionary moment.

BENEFIT SHOW 8:30-11PM

Rag and Bones Bicycle Coop is organizing an All Ages show with all proceeds benefitting their youth programming. There will be a raffle of tempting bike related offerings! Sliding scale tickets will be sold at the door. Lineup: Girlspit, Strawberry Moon, Piranha Rama
