Artistic and Altruistic: How to get to Sesame Street? Find new RVA Community Fridge in front of Studio Two Three.

Even if you didn’t notice, there’s a good chance you’ve passed one of the 15 community fridges that are scattered around Richmond. RVA Community Fridges is a mutual-aid initiative focused on combating food insecurity in the capital city by providing 24/7 access to food. These 15 spots around Richmond have fridges, freezers and pantries stocked with free food that’s been donated by folks eager to support neighbors in need.

The newest community fridge just debuted at 109 W 15th Street outside of Studio Two Three. [Style’s reigning Richmonder of the Year] Studio Two Three is a 501c3 nonprofit “community art space that supports art making for personal and social change,” as explained on the organization’s website. While the inside of the building is fostering community through art, just outside they’re fostering community through convenient access to free food.

While the 15th Street fridge just launched, Ashley Hawkins, the executive director of Studio Two Three, shares that the organization has actually been involved in the community fridge movement since 2021. Before relocating to their current spot in Manchester in 2023, Studio Two Three was based in Scott’s Addition and launched a fridge at that space in 2021.
