Make Art Work Residency

Richmond and Tri-Cities artists are invited to submit an application for our third annual Make Art Work residency–– a 3 month in-person residency program that provides 24/7 studio membership, pre-paid transportation (as needed), one-on-one technical support from artist mentors, practical business resources, and connection to a creative community of professional artists. The residency is free of charge for accepted artists.

Accepted artists will receive:

  • 12 weeks of 24/7 access to Studio Two Three’s studio facilities, including a shared private studio space for personal storage and use of a Macbook with the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office & laser printer access.

  • 1-to-1 learning with artist mentors to be used during the 12 weeks of residency.

  • Travel support (as needed)

  • Budget for child care support (as needed)

  • A $250 art supply budget

  • One year of access to all Make Art Work classes, conferences and workshops

This residency will be primarily self-guided. Artists should have experience with their medium and should be able to fully utilize the studio without the ongoing assistance of a staff person. We will provide free classes on printmaking processes including, but not limited to: screen printing, risograph printing, bookmaking, darkroom photography and relief printing. We will also provide one-to-one support from an experienced studio member artist.

This program is specifically intended for low wealth artists–– which we define as artists experiencing ongoing financial hardship that prevents them from participating in residency programs, classes for professional and/or artistic development and studio membership.

Two (2) resident artists will be accepted per cycle. Applications are juried by an Artist Advisory Committee & Studio Two Three staff. Applicants who meet the financial need criteria will be evaluated based upon:
- Artistic quality
- Alignment of work/proposed project with studio space, equipment, and facilities at Studio Two Three

*We will not require documentation of your financial position. Please respect this opportunity and only apply if this qualification applies to you.

ACCEPTED ARTISTS ARE EXPECTED TO:
* Work in a self-guided manner when in the studio.

* Consent to Studio Two Three sharing quotes, video and images of their work for use in program materials & publicity.

* Provide ongoing feedback on how we can improve the residency program.

* Sign an Artist Member License Agreement outlining rules and expectations of studio use.
